Nonetheless the general result is a sea change in most low-cost brands’ production and marketing campaigns. This is exactly the case of Kiko Green Me, the brand’s capsule collection entirely inspired by the organic trend such in vogue now.

So, it is quite known that July calls for sales and sales call for great opportunities, particularly when there’s a magic 50% off the whole Green Me range online. THE COLLECTION:

Kiko Green Me is a range designed with a high percentage of ingredients coming from natural materials – between 88 and 100% to be exact. Truth be told, we’re not talking about organic ingredients per se, but this is still a good turnaround for Kiko compared to the normal ingredients used by most high-street brands. Green Me’s packagings are also studied for low environmental impact and are made with recycled materials, PLA (eco-friendly, plant-based plastic), paper and wood. On the whole, the prospects sound good.

KIKO GREEN ME REVIEW – MAKE UP

KIKO GREEN ME EYESHADOW PALETTE

Churning out technical info, the palette is available in two shades:  01 Natural Credential, designed around classic nudes and 02 Feisty Saffron, displaying warm and more sensual natural tones. They both include matte and satin eyeshadows aimed at making colours more intense and easy to blend. Still, what makes this product innovative for Kiko is its ingredients: 94% coming from organic elements, such as argan oil, cotton and maracuja.

Using nudes every single day, I was obviously all for this palette (it doesn’t really matter if I own like a dozen nude palettes at home, there’s always room for a new one right?). Even more when considering its perfect travel size – and summer holidays are just round the corner. Also, during the years Kiko has always meant great eyeshadows to me, so throwing Natural Credential in my basket was really a no-brainer.

Alas, to my big surprise I have been let down this time! While the consistency is quite powdery and pigments tend to easily fall off during the application, the worst is yet to come. Once on the lid, colours are so faint I can honestly barely tell the difference between one and the other and applying more product doesn’t help. The only shade I can get some results with is the darkest (bottom right) but even so, don’t expect anything as bold as Urban Decay’s or Lorac’s dark browns. All in all, I’m sad to state I don’t think this palette is worth the expense – I would still love to try Feisty Saffron but I haven’t been able to find it around.

KIKO GREEN ME BRONZER LOOSE POWDER

Opposite to the eyeshadows, Kiko Green Me Loose Powder is a one of those “ha-ha!” discoveries I wouldn’t go without. I love it! Designed with all natural-origined ingredients, this bronzer comes as a highly pigmented and highly blendable loose powder. I often dip the brush directly into the product and I never get stains on my face. The final effect is beautifully warm and sun-kissed, a perfect solution for girls spending long hours in the office, far from the sun. Unfortunately the packaging isn’t very practical and definitely not travel-proof unless you are ok with opening the lid and finding powder flooding out, but if you keep it on your bathroom shelf it’s the best!

KIKO GREEN ME VOLUME MASCARA

Scoring another point for Kiko, the more I use this mascara the more I like it. Tbh, I initially wasn’t much for relying on a natural mascara – you know, if there’s a thing I pounce on for good and long-lasting results, that’s for sure fiber mascaras. Not the most organic thing on the earth, I know. But having Kiko Green Me Volume Mascara on my hands, the first thing I have noticed is how it goes the whole day without crumbling. And if this wasn’t enough the formula truly is super black, pigmented and thick. Lashes immeditaly get dramatic thanks to the comb brush that does it all when it comes to lengthening, volumising and separating, no spidery effect behind the corner you guys. I reckon the only blemish is Kiko’s promise of a spectacular curve, which neither I have achieved with the mascara nor by using an eyelash curler. The end result are beautifully long and thick but still straight eyelashes. So if you, unlike me, have naturally curved lashes this is totally your thing. If you don’t, do not despair – this is still a great option but you might want to warm your eyelash curler befor use.

KIKO GREEN ME LIPGLOSS PENCIL

The last purchase on the topic is Kiko Green Me Lipgloss Pencil, again available into two shades – but I only found Reminescent Beige instore. Kiko hasn’t disappointed expectations here either and has put on the market a soft and easy-to-apply lip product that adds a sophisticated make-up-no-make-up touch to any look. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t call it a lipgloss as it has nothing to do with the shiny and sticky coat you get when applying a lipgloss. On the contrary, I’d rather have it amongst regular lip pencils but with the add of good castor oil and shea butter’s nourishing power. All in all, a great product event though I would have probably preferred a different packaging: a normal lipstick or a thin lip pencil to make things more practical for sharpening. Other than this, it gets the “passed” tick from me.

WHAT I DIDN’T TRY: the two blushes (none of the two was pigmented enough if you ask me), the BB Cream (combination skin and BB creams’ rich formulas don’t do well in my experience), the highlighter and lips & cheeks pencils (both quite oily), the kajal, the brow pencil and the two brushes.

KIKO GREEN ME REVIEW – SKINCARE:

KIKO GREEN ME GHASSOUL GOMMAGE

Sugar crystals, Moroccan clay (Ghassoul indeed) and rose extract are the core ingredients of this fragrant gommage. In three words: I-LOVE-IT. It honestly got me immediately when reading sugar crystals among the list of ingredients. In fact, I am a the number one fan of sugar as an environment-friendly alternative to all the plastic beads making up too many scrubs and poisoning seas and oceans. Did you know? Yes, if we stay on the “green” subject, I think it is of vital importance we start banning from our beauty cabinets any products using plastic in such an unconsidered way. Sugar also is a great alternative to salt as it magnifically comes in for a delicate exfoliation and it doesn’t irritate as much (my affliction with a lot of body scrubs!). And while the Ghassoul purifies the skin, the rose extract leaves it soft and hydrated and yet not at all oily. I find it perfect before epililating or shaving!

Truth is, its inci isn’t the best ever – it has quite a few red-light ingredients – so if you are on the hunt for a truly natural scrub, then this is not for you. If, on the other hand, you are more tolerant, I’d totally give it a chance. Well, except for the packaging as I don’t see a wooden lid doing well in the shower for long..!

KIKO GREEN ME KONJAC SPONGE

Coming to an unknown territory until a couple of weeks ago, at least for me, I shall introduce you to the super famous konjac sponge. Yes guys, I wasn’t aware of its existence before finding it on a shelf in Kiko. How is this possible? I still quite don’t know.

If you, like me, are a konjac-sponge-vergin, what you need to know is that 1) it basically is a super porous sponge that has gone viral on the internet since months now, 2) it is 100% natural and 3) it is made of Konjac (yup!), a tuber mostly used in Asian cuisine but spreading now around skincare too thanks to its alkalike properties. Particularly, konjac sponges are great for sensitive exfoliation that helps stimulating microcirculation and pH balance while bringing out the skin’s natural radiance. Their peculiarity: thanks to their properties, no soap detergent o cleanser is required for use, just plain and normal water.

I don’t mind using Kiko Green Me Konjac Sponge, especially when it comes to massaging the skin – it feels like a morning/evening treat. But yeah, using a cleanser is a MUST for me. I tried not to, but cleansing the skin with plain water and nothing else just doesn’t make me feel clean at all nor it makes the skin squeaky-clean and ready for make up. Coming to the results, my complexion is actually feeling pretty great (yep, I told it and already feel the spot-wave coming in tomorrow) thanks to this and other treatments such as applying Pixi Glow Tonic every evening (you need to read my review for a radiant skin here) and thanks to summer sun’s magic. Of course, don’t imagine anything such as the effects you would get with Clarisonic. I wouldn’t say konjac sponges help with blackheads or keep pores free, but we’re talking about two completely different levels of investment: hundreds of euros VS a few.

I won’t probably repurchase it as a good cleansing system, but I’m surely for it when it comes to a quick and easy face exfoliation. It also lasts quite a time (up to 5 months according to Clio) as long as you wash and squeezed it carefully and leave it drying completely.

KIKO GREEN ME MASKS

Last but not least, my favourite when talking about Kiko Green Me skincare range. Alas, I know, if they call them “green” you actually expect an organic product but this is not the case. Let’s not beat around it, the inci is pretty bad (you can find here an indepth analysis). So why? Well.. I find Kiko Green Me Masks actually work well and do the job they are meant for, especially the Blue Clay Mask for mattifying the skin. Used in different days (I can go up to 3 days with the same bag) and during a tragic and super hot week, it has really helped me controlling excessive sebum production. The downside is that the result doesn’t last long and it has more of an immediate effect rather than a permanent one, but I wouldn’t expect more from such an inexpensive product. All in all, if you find yourself in a situation where you need a quick and immediate solution and you can turn a blind eye on the inci, I do think this is a good triplet. Its smell is great too!
