A Review Of Kiehl’s Best Products For Oily Skin

My favourite Kiehl’s products when it comes to oily skin

Let’s be honest here: having oily skin can be hard. You can’t use thick skincare or you’ll turn shiny in no time, you can’t use light products or your face will show dry patches in a day or two… Oily skin requires A LOT of care and patience.

I have spent my whole life looking for skincare products that help me have the situation under control and, although I have tried many brands and found many interesting pieces, years have taught me there’s one brand I can always rely on when it comes to special-need skin and that’s Kiehl’s

Yes, it can be expensive to an extent, but really, I don’t know any other company that gets SO many products right in a row. Of course, as for anything, they do have items I don’t like, but the majority of what I own: I love it. So today I’m gonna stick to all my favourite Kiehl’s products for oily skin.

Daytime skincare for oily skin

Depending on the time of the year, I have two major favourites here: the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel (which, as you can see, is a product I finished up til the last drop. If you want an alternative, here’s a review of Shiseido Moisturizing Cream) and the Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream.

I use the first literally every day from spring to autumn as it truly does what it says: it hydrates the skin with its soft and light texture, getting absorbed quickly and leaving your face shine-free. Of course, for a matte effect that lasts, I need to top it up with a primer and face powder, but that would happen even if I don’t apply any moisturiser at all.

During winter my skin usually requires some extra care and since the Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel isn’t enough, I normally shift towards the Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream: a product I have fallen in love with since day one. Aside from its heavenly scent (I know it’s calendula, but it tastes like a lemon cake to me), it’s a weightless cream that still manages to soothe the skin and thoroughly hydrate it, helping fight seasonal dryness. In fact, I love to use it all year round at night.

Kiehl’s night time routine for oily skin

Among Kiehl’s best products if you have oily skin I cannot avoid mentioning the Ultra Facial Cream and the Super Multi Corrective Cream.

I know that both these products have actually been thought for daytime use, but shiny skin bearers will understand: oftentime, thicker 8am-to-6pm moisturisers do veeery well on oily skin at night. And this is the case.

I’d say that the Ultra Facial Cream is more of a 365-days product you can use everyday when you don’t have any special needs to take care of. Still, it’s a great add into the routine as it balances hydration and its non-greasy formula works well with sensitive skin too. Also, being pretty light weighted, it hardly transfers onto my hair while I’m sleeping.

The Super Multi Corrective Cream, on the other side, lives on another level when it comes to cater for sore and dry skin. In fact, it’s actually an anti-ageing facial cream and it’s enriched with ingredients meant for boosting radiance and elasticity. What I love about it is that it feels like a balm on the skin, both in texture and smell, adding a SPA-feeling to my night time routine.

And speaking of SPA vibes, there’s another product I can’t live without actually all year round. And that’s Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. This, you guys, is actually a very thick, very rich moisturiser, reason why I apply only a teeny tiny amount each night. BUT. It does miracles with nourishing the eye area and lets you wake up with bright and fresh eyes. I simply adore it in winter, spring, summer and autumn.

Special Kiehl’s skincare treats

When it comes to removing make up, I’m all for cleansing oils because they are the most gentle thing on earth, don’t require cotton pads or cloths, and melt away any make up in the timespan of a face massage. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil is no less.

Needless to say, the smell is a fully aromatic, SPA-like, experience enclosed in a bottle, but its main value comes with its ability to cleanse the skin without over-drying it. I admit, though, it is a bit pricey so, if you’d rather spend less and compromise on the fragrance, I recommend you try Yves Rocher Sensitive Camomile Cleansing Oil. If that’s too oily for you, you can always round it out with a nice cleanser – I personally love Dior Hydra-Life (see the review here).

And how about acne and maskne? I know, 2020 and 2021 are such a pain when it comes to many unwanted things, spots being one of them.

To prevent greasy skin, acne and massive blackheads, especially on my period or the week before, I’ll go with a coat of Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask, let it dry and then remove it with warm water. Again, this is a very gentle product. It won’t dry your skin, nor solve the issue with one application, but oily skin demands for time and consistency, rather than shock treatments.

What I feel insane love for, though, is Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution: a miracle serum whose formula corrects any dark spots and boosts radiance and skin clarity. Now, while I don’t like to apply it on my whole face, I’ve fallen for using it directly on dark marks left by healed acne. It.works.magic. And in a week or so, any clue of past acne is gone, leaving my skin clear and concealer-free.
