One of the things I love the most about the first weeks of the year is the fact that, whilst everything else is slow and quiet after Christmas, beauty brands start launching their Spring collections and magazines, Instagram and Pinterest swarm with flowers, colours and all sorts of news – an eager wait for the warm season. So when a couple of weeks ago, Dior launched their new Dior Spring 2019 collection, I couldn’t help but head to Sephora, have a look at all the products and fall in love with their Dior Addict Lip Glow To The Max, their new lip balm. (And if you are a big consumer of soft shades like me, you will see my point!) Dior describe it as the ultimate lip balm coming directly from their fashion backstage, but is it really worth the expense? I chose two of the seven shades available, tested them daily for four weeks and now it’s that time of the month again my dear beauty junkies: I’m reviewing the new Dior Addict Lip Glow To The Max!
BEHIND THE SCENES
“Colour & Glow” is the keyword to these lip balms as all Dior Addict Lip Glow To The Max come dual-toned, combining together a pink nuance meant to fit any skin tone + a shimmering nuance studied for super glowy results. The shades available are 7 (5 shimmering VS 2 holographic):
- 201 Pink
- 204 Coral
- 206 Berry
- 207 Raspberry
- 209 Holo Purple
- 210 Holo Pink
- 212 Rosewood
Price: €34,50 in Sephora

REVIEWING THE NEW DIOR ADDICT LIP GLOW TO THE MAX
Talking packaging, it’s hard not to fall for these buddies cause the reworking of the classic Dior Addict Lipstick in pale pink has turned out beautiful and premium but with a romantic vibe in it. Then of course you remove the lid and the true pop and happy soul of this product comes out. Surprise!
So, how about the rest?
Well, first of all don’t expect a lip balm in the true sense of the word as Dior Addict Lip Glow To The Max actually places itself halfway between a lip balm and a lipstick. Yes, it does hydrate more than a lipstick, but if you are expecting the same nourishing power of a normal coloured lip balm, this isn’t the case. In fact, while Dior state that its mango-enriched formula helps keeping lips hydrated for 24h, I find the effect lasts 3-5 hours, no more. Reason why I’d rather consider it a combination of lip balm and lipstick, still lovely to wear but definitely no 24h hydration guaranteed.
On the other hand, when it comes to colours both my Dior Addict Lip Glow To The Max are super pigmented and while the first layer ends up quite natural on the lips, if you build up the product you can get a beautiful and lasting result – up to 6-7 hours. In fact, it might not look like in pictures, but in person the effect is super iridescent and intense, especially for 206 Berry and its cold purple shade; but 201 Pink still plays its part, I promise. What I’ve noticed though, is that if you don’t have perfectly smooth and well nourished lips, after a few hours the colour tends to go in the folds or settle towards the outer border of the lips. In my case, this is truer for 206 Berry than for 201 Pink but even though it’s nothing too dramatic, it’s best to check the mirror from time to time just to make sure everything’s in place.

TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?
All in all, I can honestly say I don’t mind this product and I will continue using my two shades throughout spring and possibly summer given that they aren’t too buttery and they should fit well tanned skin. I probably won’t purchase other colours though, cause I feel that they somehow need the extra mile to get to the ‘WOW’ effect justifying the price. I still find it an enjoyable product, but to me it doesn’t entirely meet the expectations created by the advertising gone viral.
So would I recommend the purchase in the end? Well, yes if you are looking for a beauty treat, a little jewel you want to add to your collection and feel special when you wear it (the power of high-end products!). Also, the shades they’ve chosen are quite unique, so if you are into riding the latest beauty trends while flaunting holo/iridescent lips tomorrow in the office, then go for it. However if you are buying it solely for the result promised or for the hydration power, then you might want to a) test them in store and see how they work on you during the day and b) still have a look at other products that can do the same job but for a lower budget.
Also, while reviewing the new Dior Addict Lip Glow To The Max, I’ve also been trying the reformulated version of the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation. I’ve been loving it so far but I’m wondering whether it’ll be too thick for my combination skin in spring (take into account the warm Italian weather!). What do you think? Have you tried the new formula yet?
